Reading, like other parts of the South East region, has experienced significant demographic changes with new migrant groups joining the existing population. Some of the challenges facing new migrant communities are low income, unemployment, under-employment, language difficulties, lack of basic and functional skills, single parenthood, family and parental conflicts, homelessness, and anti-social behaviour.
We believe the benefits we have enjoyed from volunteering and learning from ACRE’s work can be replicated for others, too. We want to make concrete and positive contributions to the lives of individuals, families, and small community groups, working to enhance and extend the reach of mainstream services to disadvantaged groups.
